Turning unstructured data into a treasure trove

Data protection

In a world where it sometimes feels like everyone's after our data, it's reassuring to know that there are policies and dedicated professionals looking out for us. Enter the Data Protection Institute (DPI), a leading provider of specialized training and certification programs for data protection and information security. Since 2012, DPI has been on a mission to empower Data Protection Officers (DPOs) with cutting-edge, practical courses led by industry experts. From deep dives into GDPR compliance to mastering privacy by design, DPI ensures that its participants are fully equipped to face today's most pressing data protection challenges.

Business savvy meets tech innovation

After over 10 years of training providing training to professionals, DPI has created quite some content in the form of presentations and videos. This content was, however, unstructured and difficult to search. DPI wanted to create a platform that unlocks this data by making it searchable, thus enhancing its accessibility and utility.

To bring this vision to life, DPI turned to Unikoo, recognizing our proven expertise in full-stack development and AI engineering. We didn’t just provide technical solutions; our comprehensive approach offered DPI both hands-on validation of proof of concepts and co-creation of the business case through methods such as interviewing test users to gauge their willingness to use and pay for the platform.

From vision to Reality: crafting a POC to a game-changing MVP
Unikoo developed the initial Proof of Concept (POC) and Minimum Viable Product (MVP) for DPI. Our services included performing both functional and technical analysis, alongside user-interviews to co-create the business case. We adopted a modular approach, iterating through every stage of the platform development: from data ingestion, logical chunking and embedding information to making it searchable.

Multi-Language Support and Modular Architecture as challengers

The project presented several significant challenges:

  • It needed to support multiple input languages and ensure that search results include all these languages.
  • It needed to be able to handle multi-modal data, encompassing both spoken text and presentations.
  • Because the platform should be able to adapt to rapid technological evolution, we opted for a modular approach where every part of the solution architecture is replaceable.

Impressive Results: A Validated Platform with user feedback
Within a tight timeframe, we successfully validated the platform's key components, earning praise from both the DPI and the test panel.  The results highlighted how a focused, modular approach could drive significant advancements swiftly and effectively.

“Our 'Stay Tuned' program is a cornerstone of DPI, ensuring that members, DPOs, and privacy professionals stay informed on the latest GDPR and data privacy developments. With nearly 20 quarters of valuable training content, it was crucial to make these resources searchable. Partnering with Unikoo, whose swift, professional, and flexible approach enabled us to achieve this, has significantly enhanced the accessibility of our sessions,” said Peter Berghmans, CEO at DPI.

Building on this success, DPI and Studio Fledge are excited to continue their collaboration. Coming up next: a production-ready version of the platform, meeting the high standards required for wide-scale deployment.
